No state wage tax
Texas, Washington, Florida RSUs: the 22% hole is almost all federal.
Reviewed August 21, 2026. About. Not tax advice.
Washington, Texas, and Florida do not tax wages. The RSU surprise is still the federal 22% supplemental rate. A 2026 single Seattle IC on $240k salary, $160k RSUs, $30k bonus is about $25,440 still due on this desk, all federal. An Austin founder with K-1 on top ($68,770 on the sample) is larger because K-1 is not withheld.
Two samples
Seattle IC: still due $25,440. Austin founder (W-2 + RSUs + K-1): still due $68,770.
FAQ
- Does Washington’s capital-gains tax hit the vest?
- The vest itself is wages, not the WA capital-gains excise. Selling after vest can be a different question. This desk does not compute WA capital gains.
- I moved from California to Texas this year.
- CA may still claim equity earned while you were a resident. That is a sourcing fight, not a calculator. Do not treat a Texas address as a wipe of CA.
